Chinese Delegation visits Carlow County Museum

County Carlow extended the hand of friendship to Chinese partners from the Hunan Province in the People’s Republic of China with an 18 strong delegation visiting the County.

The programme commenced with a formal introduction lead by Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council Cllr. Brian O’Donoghue (Cathaoirleach) and signing of a friendship agreement by Kathleen Holohan (Chief Executive, Carlow County Council) and Wang Qun (Secretary General, Hunan Provincial People’s Government) witnessed by Xu Dazhe (Governor Hunan Provincial People’s Government).

The delegation shares a story in our Archaeology Department.

Their whistlestop tour of Carlow Town included a visit to Carlow County Museum, where staff were delighted to show-off the history and heritage of County Carlow.

The visit was supported by the Ambassador & Embassy for the People’s Republic of China and Mr Huang He, Political Counsellor and DHM representing the Ambassador at the visit said: 

2019 marked 40 years of formal relationships with Ireland and the Peoples Republic of China and is committed to supporting this friendship to develop and grow to its full potential”

 

The agreement will commence a series of engagements with partners in China in order to explore opportunities for County Carlow from a cultural, social, economic and educational viewpoint. The visit commenced with an experience exchange of County Carlow hosted by Carlow County Council in partnership with Institute of Technology Carlow, Carlow College, Carlow Tourism, County Carlow Chamber and Carlow Cathedral.

Visit from the Hungarian Ambassador

Once again we were delighted to have a diplomatic visitor to Carlow County Museum. Back in September we welcomed the Ambassador of Belgium to Ireland and today we were honored with a visit from His Excellency István Pálffy, the Hungarian Ambassador to Ireland, as part of his visit to Carlow with Carlow County Council and the LEO office. He visited the county buildings, the Visual, Carlow College and Carlow County Museum.

Putting on a Show! 

There’s no place like home Carlow County Museum!

Janice De Bróithe, Director and Producer behind Slapdash Theatre Co. visited us to see a poster for her 2015 show the ‘Wizard of Oz’ on display in our Performing Arts section. All cast and crew are welcome to the museum to see how their hard work has been turned into an exhibit for all of Carlow to see.

Visit from the Belgian Ambassador

His Excellency, Pierre-Emmanuel de Bauw being brought around the museum by our curator Dermot Mulligan.

On Friday August 31st 2018 we were delighted to welcome His Excellency, Pierre-Emmanuel de Bauw, Ambassador of Belgium to Ireland, to visit Carlow County Museum and Carlow Cathedral. Ambassador de Bauw visited both locations to hear about St. Willibrord’s connection to the county, as Belgium is one of the countries his 7th century mission visited and still has devotion to him to this day.
